How well do those speech recognition programs work? Granted the last ones I've seen were a few years old. I imagine that they work better than they did then (and I wish my cable company would buy one).

    Hi,

I also mentioned voice recognition software in my latest eBook but as I mentioned there I have a mother from India, an English father, and I was born in Scotland but now reside in Canada.

The result is that I have had little success with voice recognition software even after much "training".

On the other hand, my brother-in-law's wife (full-blooded Canadian eh), who has certain disabilities, used Dragon Naturally Speaking for her university reports with tremendous success!

The latest version work splendidly, except when I step up to the microphone.

    Hey C,

Do you go by your first initial? I'm not being a smart ass, I just like to address people by their name. :) The program works pretty well. I added the link into the post to the last one in the series that talked about speed reading. They really did used to suck.

    Hi William,

My father has a heavy Nigerian accent, so I know what you mean. When I was writing this, I thought about that, and it's largely why I included the option to increase typing speed instead. Thanks for the backup example though - people never believe that it works out of the box.

Tina, you can called me anything you want, just don't call me Shirley! :p The comments about accents makes sense. Every time I have to call my cable/internet provider I cringe. They have the WORSE voice recognition software. One day both my wife and myself tried twice each to reach the right department...finally gave up and sent an email.
