I have looked at setting up a membership site because I have products ideally suited for one - but the tecchie logistics
just floor me. Even the Wordpress plug-in is over my head. How does one do a very simple membership site ?

I think we're nearly there as far as it becoming "internet mainstream", but
not for "general mainstream." Offline people can go through their entire
daily lives not really understanding what Twitter is or what it does. But
everyone knows someone with a Facebook account who MAY have invited them at
some point. :)

Twitter becoming mainstream? I think it is almost there. Imagine it becoming the first thing you will type whenever you think of your favorite celebrity, icon, influential figure and what they have to say to the wide audience.

Well Faraz, thanks for commenting. And it's definitely like I said before, Facebook, like anything else, is a communications device. Some people use it for sending and receiving business information. If you don't want people to send you business information, don't add people who want to send you business information.

It's really that simple.

I'm never going to tell someone, as I've said many times, "this is the right way, and the only right way." I'm just telling people how to get my results.

Also, I have never, not ever, simply "promoted some product" on Facebook. You won't find my sales pages there. You just won't, not on my profile. I set up my profile as the bait and the fish who want it Come To Me.

That's a very critical point. I don't market on Facebook in the traditional sense. I provide value, and if people want my services, they have to ask me.

I dont completely agree with you there.. facebook is a trust place.. people (including me) go there to check on friends and family and to just see how they are doing.. I do not want anyone in my friend list trying to promote some product..
